Paul: Bill to tax bonuses an ‘outrage’ and unconstitutional

Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) yet again went against the grain in Congress when he stood up in the House and argued against a proposal that would tax 90 percent of AIG executive bonuses, saying that it was a “disgrace,” a “distraction” and an “outrage” that undermined the Constitution.

“I rise in opposition to this rule and the bill because of the problem — because of the lack of need for this and the disgrace that this has brought upon us,” Paul said. “Yesterday, for instance, the Federal Reserve met and they came out and they announced that they would create new money to the tune of $1.25 trillion.”

Missouri report on militias, terrorists draws criticism

March 15, 2009 by Administrator · Leave a Comment

COLUMBIA, Mo. | A new document meant to help Missouri law enforcement agencies identify militia members or domestic terrorists has drawn criticism for some of the warning signs mentioned.

The Feb. 20 report called “The Modern Militia Movement” mentions such red flags as political bumper stickers for third-party candidates, such as U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, who ran for president last year; talk of conspiracy theories, such as the plan for a superhighway linking Canada to Mexico; and possession of subversive literature.

“It seems like they want to stifle political thought,” said Roger Webb, president of the University of Missouri campus Libertarians. “There are a lot of third parties out there, and none of them express any violence. In fact, if you join the Libertarian Party, one of the things you sign in your membership application is that you don’t support violence as a means to any ends.”

But state law enforcement officials said the report is being misinterpreted.

Roubini: US Banks Already Toast

NYU economist Nouriel Roubini, widely credited for predicting the current crisis, says government aid to banks isn’t enough to hide the fact that they’ve failed.

“Even with the $2 trillion of government support, most of these financial institutions are insolvent,” he writes on Forbes.com.

“Delinquency and charge-off rates are now rising at a rate – given the macro outlook – that means expected losses for U.S. financial firms will peak at $3.6 trillion.”

Ron Paul: ‘Get Rid of the Federal Reserve’

February 28, 2009 by Administrator · Leave a Comment

By Rick Pedraza, Newsmax

Rep. Ron Paul, in a speech delivered to an enthusiastic crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference, said conservatives “have to be devoted to and willing to stand by and defend the Constitution, and have the position that it is absolutely necessary to get rid of the Federal Reserve system.”

Paul, who ran for president in 2008 championing the Constitution, talked about his bill seeking to abolish the Federal Reserve, which he said is getting bipartisan support in the Congress.
“We’ve gotten ourselves in a mess because the conservative movement, which was designed to bring us back to our roots of limited government, smaller government and more individual liberty, hasn’t happened,” said Paul, R-Texas.

The Year of ‘Mortgage Jubilee’ is Upon Us

February 23, 2009 by Scott Ellis · Leave a Comment

I have used the term ‘Year of Mortgage Jubilee’ often in the last year to describe the outcome of the Government’s interventions in the mortgage foreclosure markets. The year is here.

In the Old Testament, all debts are forgiven during the Year of Jubilee.

The Federal Government, in its blind rush to keep people in houses they either overbought or over-re-financed-for cash, will begin making the deal so sweet for those in default that those not in default question why in the world they are working hard to make their payments. As the deal for default sweetens, many will begin to stop paying on houses they really could pay for.

US Now Only Two States Away From Constitutional Convention

Worldnet Daily

A public policy organization has issued an urgent alert stating affirmative votes are needed from only two more states before a Constitutional Convention could be assembled in which “today’s corrupt politicians and judges” could formally change the U.S. Constitution’s “‘problematic’ provisions to reflect the philosophical and social mores of our contemporary society.”

National Surveys Show Atlas Shrugged Is Widely Read

November 5, 2008 by Administrator · Leave a Comment

Washington, D.C. — For the second year in a row, a question included in a Zogby International omnibus telephone survey of American adults indicated that 8.1 percent of respondents have read Ayn Rand’s novel Atlas Shrugged. The surveys conducted in October 2007 and again in October 2008 indicated that more than 17 percent of U.S. college graduates have read the novel. That is a remarkable number for a serious, intellectual novel of more than 1100 pages whose theme is the role of the mind in man’s existence.

Long-shot candidates pose a threat

November 4, 2008 by Administrator · Leave a Comment

When Democrats took control of the House in 2006, Michael Montagano was a fresh-faced Indiana University Law School graduate without any serious political ambitions.

Two years later, in the midst of a long-shot bid against Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.) in a deeply conservative northeast Indiana district, the 27-year-old attorney could find himself swept into Congress if a sizable Democratic wave hits on Tuesday.

Wave Watch: How big will GOP loss be?

October 16, 2008 by Administrator · Leave a Comment

The conventional wisdom has the GOP surrendering between 20 and 25 House seats in November, as Democrats ride a wave a discontent with Republican rule and the lousy economy.

The anticipated Democratic surge, should it happen, will also get a boost from the unprecedented fundraising advantage enjoyed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee over the once-mighty National Republican Congressional Committee.
