This is the first article in a three part series…
Of all the injustices Americans face today, the progressive income tax is perhaps the worst. Fortunately, there is a movement and legislation afoot aimed at obliterating the progressive income tax. It is called the FairTax.
The FairTax is a “revenue neutral” national retail sales tax designed to replace all federal and payroll based taxes. In other words, it will eliminate the IRS. Let me say that again: it will eliminate the IRS.
There are now two books available detailing the FairTax plan and how it would work, and as those books are so well written, I’m not going to go into the concretes and particulars here. I want to present a more abstract moral defense of the FairTax.
Given the fact we are rapidly approaching the point of no return in the form of full blown socialism or some form of soft fascism, I support the FairTax 100%. If implemented, it would be a huge moral victory for hard working Americans, and would help to turn the tide against big government by making Americans see, every time they buy new goods, just how much their government is costing them.
Aside from the prebate component, which is a capitulation to the liberals, the FairTax is aptly named because it is fair; or, to be more precise, it is MORAL. Regardless of how high the rate, it is a flat tax based on consumption, that everyone pays on every purchase of new goods. In the absence of the prebate component, nobody would ride free.
Contrast this with the “progressive” income tax, which penalizes productivity and ability in the most perverse way – the more productive you are, the higher your tax rate and the more you are taxed; the less productive you are, the less you pay, and if you are completely parasitical and unproductive, you get to leech money from the system.
It is an inversion of nature to punish those who make our existence possible via their production. If you follow this practice to its logical conclusion, the producers are wiped out completely, and the result is starvation and death for all.
This was the theme of Ayn Rand’s epic “Atlas Shrugged” – what happens when the producers stop producing – what happens when they say “NO!” and go on strike? The lights of New York go out, and the world is plunged back into the Dark Ages.
The progressive income tax is the philosophy of altruism ala Immanuel Kant delivered politically/economically via the writings of Karl Marx – it is IMMORAL and EVIL at the most basic philosophical level.
In other words, if you accept the premise that taxes should be “progressive”, you have accepted the philosophy of altruism (self-sacrifice), which logically culminates in collectivism, and the attendant death and destruction that go with it.
Those that believe taxes should be “progressive” – that the able should be punished (taxed) *because* they are able, and the unable have a claim on the lives of the able, or, in other words, a “right” to loot – are an enemy of not just the FairTax, but the ideas and principles upon which this country is founded.
